I suggest the 1611 (aka King James Version) for English translations. If I am speaking about an English translation, and I use the phrases “The Bible” or “The Translators”, I am referring to the 1611 Bible and it’s translators. The 1833 Authorized King James Version is probably the most precise translation. I only have a couple of small disagreements with The Translators regarding that version. The New King James Bible isn’t bad. I have recommended it to people in the past, but that is a situational recommendation. The Authorized King James tends towards translation, while the New King James tends towards translitteration. For example, KJV will read “hell”, NKJV will read “sheol”. I should caution, there other translations called “King James” that have been produced in the 21st century. I suggest, those should not be used. I prefer 1611 or KJV. I have spoken at length, even discussing The Translators and their notes to us as to why I trust the 1611 bible. One day, I may include a paper on that topic. For now, I will say, it is not an uniformed or hasty decision.
